Data Containing Devices/Hard Drives - What To Do?

It is recommended that your data containing devices with hard drives such as laptops, computers, tablets, cell phones, etc., be wiped clean whenever possible prior to dropping off.

Backing up data first is recommended before resetting any device.

For Ipads, tablets, smart phones, old cell phones:  Check on line for your type of device and follow instructions on how to perform a hard reset or to return to factory settings.  This erases all personal information and applications.

For computers, laptops or anything containing a hard drive.  First backup and then erase all personal files.  Most computers can be returned to factory settings or wiped clean with a system restore as per instructions for your device found on the internet.  Re-installing the original operating system is also another method used to remove personal data.

When this is not possible, the hard drive can be removed and destroyed before bringing to a drop off event.

Indie Cycle works with several trusted vendors that shred hard drives, cell phones and other data containing devices to protect any information that may remain.

All information is subject to change.
